 All information must be in the system before a tester  can get put in to be scheduled for a test date before 5:30pm EST  48 hours before the date date. If the information is not in the system tester must wait till next available test date becomes available. 

2 HOUR  30 MIN TEST LIMIT 

To take the CDL Skill Test  in North Carolina, you need to be at least 18 years old (21 for interstate or hazardous materials operations), possess a valid Class A, B, or C driver's license, and have held a commercial learner's permit for at least 14 days. You must also provide proof of identity and North Carolina residency, pass the required written knowledge tests, and meet medical requirements. Additionally, you need to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) if required. 

Here's a breakdown of the requirements: 

1. Age and Licensing: 

  • Be at least 18 years old (21 for interstate or hazardous materials operations). 
  • Possess a valid North Carolina Class A or B driver's license. 

2. Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP):

  • Hold a CLP for at least 14 days before the skills test. 

3. Written Tests: 

  • Pass the knowledge tests for the appropriate CDL class and endorsements (e.g., air brakes, combination vehicles). 

4. Medical Requirements: 

  • Meet the medical standards set by the state. 
  • May require a Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT card). 

5. Proof of Identity and Residency: 

  • Provide documentation proving your identity (e.g., birth certificate, passport). 
  • Provide documentation proving your North Carolina residency (e.g., utility bill, bank statement). 

6. ELDT (Entry-Level Driver Training): 

  • Complete the required ELDT from a registered provider if you obtained your CLP after February 7, 2022. 

7. Skills Test Vehicle: 

  • You will need a vehicle of the type you want to be licensed for. 
  • The vehicle must have a valid safety inspection sticker, license plates, and registration card. 
  • It must also have working brakes, safety belts, a horn, lights, and turn signals.
